Where fixed detectors should be used &where rate of rise detectors should be used?
they are used in fire fighting&fire detection systems
Fixed detectors monitor normal temperatures say 30c. Rate of rise would detect the increasing temperature of a progressing fire.
Stream Splitting in Support of Intrusion Detection
This is a NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A584714. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: One of the most significant challenges with modern intrusion detection systems is the high rate of false alarms that they generate. In order to lower this rate, we propose to reduce the amount of traffic sent to the intrusion detection system via a filtering process termed stream splitting. Each packet arriving at the system is treated as belonging to a connection. Each connection is then assigned to a network stream. A network stream can then be sent to an analysis engine tailored specifically for that type of data. To demonstrate a stream-splitting capability both an extend able multi-threaded architecture and prototype were developed.

Working as a firefighter requires a knowledge of operating multiple devices. Not only the knowledge of fire engine, but also is useful knowledge about design, installation, operation and maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems. This course is designed to provide firefighters with information on fire detection and suppression system and teaches how to use the different tools and devices in an appropriate, practical and safe way.
The course provides comprehensive knowledge about different types of automatic sprinkler systems, hose standpipe systems, and fixed fire pump installations.
Fireman also can learn important information about portable fire extinguishers, fixed special agent extinguishing systems, and fire alarm and detection systems are addressed.
Very useful knowledge can be information about design, operation maintenance, and inspection of these systems and equipment is provided. It’s teaching how to use and handle in safely and right way. Course and the book contain that valuable and very important information and helps you better understand of fire detection and suppression system installation.
The course includes information on fire extinguishing agents, and fire extinguishers. It teaches how to properly and effectively extinguish fires. It identifies type of extinguishers and types of extinguishing agent for each classifications of fire. This knowledge can be very useful.
After this course, fireman will be able to recognize and discriminate different types of fire detection and suppression systems. And also will have the knowledge about design, installation, operation, and maintenance of components or systems. Understanding of this course will help firefighter in a more effective work in fighting fires and rescuing people.

What do you do to an incompetent teacher at school?
im a 1st year marine engineering student. my future job has something to do with machines on board ships. im concerned about one of our teachers. hes our basic safety teacher in a college here in iloilo, philippines. he is a 3rd engineer by license and has had a whole lot of years of experience to back it up. but i think (and some of my classmates as well) that he isn't meant to be a teacher. he's just not good in conveying his important experiences for the benefit of our subject matter. he isn't good in english and we could hardly comprehend his tests and quizzes. also, he uses a book in the subject and photocopies it to distribute the lessons to cover. heres one test he gave us today

btw, in this test (and all his other tests) he required us to pay 50 cents for the expenses in photocopying the questionnaire. but get this: HE DIDN'T ALLOW US TO KEEP THE SAID QUESTIONNAIRE. and i could be pretty sure he also required the other classes after our own to pay up as well, which means he is making a business out of it (1 class= 50 students *6 classes= 300 copies *.50= 150 pesos every time he gives us a test!!).
and as if it weren't enough, i think hes planning to do the same thing, ON A 3 PAGE QUESTIONNAIRE for our FINALS!!!.
i made my move by keeping ONE of his questionnaires today (of course he doesnt know XP) and im planning to show the paper to our english teacher, who specializes in maritime english. im also thinking of showing the same SHEET (pardon for the pun) to the head of the Marine engineering department.
so what do you think??
yes. i typed the whole test that i "kept" after the class.
oh, our finals is next week btw. what if the said "higher ups" make a big deal out of it? will it mean that we will take the subject all over again next year?
This is a tough call because it has been left so late, and I hate to see you miss out on your credit. Would you be able to do well enough in the course without saying anything? It's not that I think this kind of teaching should continue, but it would be a shame to have to repeat the course. I'm not sure what the school administration would decide. (It is a really bad test. I know nothing about your subject, but it is very hard to read and understand). If you do decide to do something about this: Have you tried talking to your teacher first? I ask because I am a teacher. Not for a college or university, but it still really bothers me when a student is struggling with something and hasn't told me about it, and then I find out from someone else. No teacher is perfect (especially when they are just starting), and any good teacher will want to know what is working or not working for their students and try to improve their practice. You may get nothing out of him or he may be rude to you but then you will know for sure that he should not be where he is, and you can have no qualms about going to someone higher up about it. Just approach him nicely about it so he doesn't get too defensive. Explain that you're all really excited to learn from his experiences, but a lot of you are having trouble understanding some of the material and comprehending the tests. Maybe he could have them translated by a colleague or a teacher's assistant or grad student? If you do go to someone else, just be careful of how you approach it. Explain that your concerned for your entire class that you may not be learning as much as you'd all like because you find him and his tests very difficult to understand. Do have a copy of the test to show in case they want an example. Say that you think he has a lot to offer but could use some coaching and a bit of extra help with translation. But do try to fit in there somewhere if they seem to take it seriously that you really don't want to upset the whole course for everyone, and everyone is willing to read the required information from the text, but you want everyone to be able to actually portray their knowledge on the final exam to get an appropriate grade and not be mixed up because they can't understand the question. Explain that you'd appreciate their help but don't want to jeopardize anyone's degree/diploma/course, but you also wanted them to know for next term or next year, because you know how hard it has been for you and your fellow classmates, so you don't want next year's class to struggle as well. I hope that all makes sense and that it helps you. Just don't go barging in and complain like its an all or nothing thing. Just ask them to help your class in some way. Usually if you put it that way, you will find a softie who will try to help you and the teacher. If you don't get anywhere after a little bit, then and only then, barge in and complain if you feel the need. Sometimes, its necessary. But only if you've tried the nice way first. Good luck! Oh, I know I didn't comment on the photocopy cost thing, not sure what to say, that's just weird. Do any of your other teachers charge for that? I would have thought the school paid for that, but perhaps he has to? Is he just a guest teacher or something? Maybe he isn't part of the full-time faculty so he doesn't have a budget he can use?
